Events & Courses

All events are subject to change, particularly the workshop nights. Please check this page regularly to ensure that the details of an event you are interested in attending have not changed.

The Guild offers a range of course nights at a small cost for materials. These are held on Monday nights at McDougall House, and cater for both members and non-members. These courses are a great way to start your bookbinding, and are run on a regular basis. The courses run as a progressive series, so attending a number of them will help your skills, as a range of different binding styles and techniques are demonstrated over a number of nights or weekends.

Check the list of events below to see when the next courses will be run. However, the courses often have waitlists. If you cannot make a course that you have booked for, please contact the Secretary so that someone else may take up the place.

Evening courses are at McDougall House in Como, off Clydesdale Street and start at 6:00pm, going through to 9:00pm each evening. Weekend courses are done at the Roleystone Family Centre on Wygonda Road in Roleystone, and start at 9:00 am and go through to 4:00pm. You must register in order to attend, as places are very limited. Payments must be made before the course starts, and are not refundable in the last 30 days prior to the course.

For details of the courses themselves, see our page on Courses.

Advanced Bookbinding Workshop, December

Date:

Saturday, November 30th, 2019 - 9:00 AM to Sunday, December 1st, 2019 - 4:00 PM

Welcome to the December Advanced Bookbinding workshop. This course is very popular and has been running for a few years now. It covers leather bindings, together with sewing onto cords. You cover how to prepare the adhesive, trim and pare the leather, and shape it over cords to give the book that very distinctive look with the raised bands on the spine and the beautiful, incomparable feel of a leather bound book.

This is the only Advanced course to be held in 2019. It is recommended that you have already made a number of books, and be familiar with the rounding and backing techniques introduced in our Intermediate workshop.

This course is $95.00 for the course, and all tools and materials are provided. This course takes place over a single weekend, for a total of 12 hours of tuition. The dates are 30th November and and 1st of December. Payment is made prior to the beginning of the workshop.

For more details about the course, look here at the Courses page. This course is held at the Roleystone Family Centre in Roleystone.

This course is now full. Please click Waitlist me please! if you wish to be waitlisted.
